Designated Feeders
For members who have more time to devote to the program, more opportunities exist. Birds must be fed on a daily basis (excluding fast days) and some birds, especially educational birds, are fed by hand by designated feeders. It's an unforgettable experience!
For volunteers who expressed an interest in helping with weekly feeding and have not identified a day to help, contact the individual responsible for the day which works best for you and make arrangements directly with them.

Information for Daily Feeders
Notes for feeding should be on the feed sheet. If not, you should be able to determine
what to feed from what is thawed.
Some do's:
- Read feeding instructions carefully and feed (or do not feed) accordingly.
- Check on each bird, check off each bird, initial and date the feed sheet.
- Clean up the sink area when finished, esp. bins, bowls, scissors, and surfaces.
- Take out food for the next day as/if indicated
- Be sure all bags with food are completely empty. If torn, throw away, if intact, salvage, but be sure no DOC, mice, etc. remain.
- Put all remains from food prep in the waste bag in the freezer.
- Change waters or papers if indicated and time permits (usually only as needed during the week)
- Be sure that anything to do with aviary refuse goes only in the garbage can with a garbage bag.
- Replace the key(s)
Some do not's:
- Do not overheat the food with hot water, not cold/slightly warm is adequate, and within reason only warm the amount you'll use that day
- Do not feed birds designated DNF ("Do Not Feed") in the shaded aviaries
- Do not throw food, refuse, etc. in the white waste baskets
- Do not leave remains from food prep around the sink area
- Do not leave the premises with the key(s)
